The Little Un Gallery....quite possibly the World's smallest art gallery........ had it's inaugural exhibition and grand opening on Sunday 14th June 2009. The gallery is situated in Banners Street in Halesowen ( Halesowen's first art gallery) and is in a dysfunctional phone box which has not been in working order for some years and is a place where youth congregate and vandalize. The idea evolved around claiming back this dysfunctional space for the local community and making it something to be proud of, rather than ashamed of, making it aesthetically pleasing rather than ugly. I put out a call for 2 dimensional submissions no more than 5 x 7 inches. The work could be of any medium or subject and artists could be professional or amateur inorder to make the project as inclusive as possible.

The opening, today, 14th June 2009 went very well. There were 24 exhibiting artists in all and 52 pieces of work on show (including some 3D pieces). There was interest from the local and national press and the sun was shining! The local community was very supportive and it was great meeting so many people. I intend to document the piece for the next 3 months to see what becomes of it and will show some of that documentation on this site. The box is open and anyone can visit at any time. I cannot guarantee that the work will remain intact or even insitu, infact before 7pm on the first night someone had sadly already stolen the painting from the back of the phone box - whoever it is, I hope you enjoy it - it's title was "Pondering the Future!"
